World Cup: Opening Match Review

So we watched the entire AB's game tonight against Tonga. Afterwards, I googled a few game summaries, and noted that most give you something like this from stuff.co.nz.

Basically, it's a boring minute by minute play-by-play featuring eighty separate entries (over eighty minutes) of what happened in the game. I thought I'd summarize it for people who watch rugby for the right reasons.

First, Dan kicked a penalty for the All-Blacks. 3-0.

Then, this guy scored a try (but Dan shanked the conversion) 8-0.

My name is Israel. Israel Dagg. Image from Zimbio.

Then, this guy scored a try. 15-0.

From Richard Kahui's blog , which is highly entertaining, and somehow contains more pictures of hot guys than this one ever will.

Then, the two guys above scored another try each (that's FOUR total for you Arts majors), and the game was officially a runaway.

Then, the most amazing thing ever happened and Sonny Bill "accidentally" ripped his shirt, and had to change it onfield. The video is priceless, and almost made up for his "boxing match" against the gospel singer sickness benficiary.

Then some other stuff happened and they ended by interviewing Richie McCaw, who didn't once mention how he cheats at the breakdown on every single scrum. Seriously, the guy gets 20% of his team's penalties, and they try to defend this as "not that many."

Anyway . . . hope you enjoyed the match summary by a fan who knows what matters. Will be doing weekly summaries during RWC season,

  2. Glad you enjoyed the snaggits. It's true - rugby is hilarious homoerotic, and I'm just a voyeur.

Hope you stay up to date over the next seven weeks!
